  Applegate Valley

Troon Vineyard

Troon Vineyard, located in the heart of Applegate Valley is known for their innovative wine making, sustainable practices, and being one of only two wineries in the world to earn a Regenerative Organic Certified Label. The winery, which has received international praise over the past decade, was nominated for best American Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and recently featured in the New York Times. Known for the Rhone varietals, most of their wine is influenced by Southern France. While visiting the 100-acre vineyard, walk around the grounds where you’ll see native landscaping, beehives, and sheep—-all part of their biodynamic farming techniques.

Plan a stay at Troon’s Vineyard House, a recently remodeled 3 bedroom 2 bath home with stunning vineyard and mountain views. During your getaway, explore neighboring wineries at Schmidt Family Vineyards and Rosella’s, hike along the East Applegate Ridge Trail, visit Pennington Farms, and enjoy dinner and drinks at the Lindsay Lodge.

Wooldridge Creek Winery

Located just down the road from Troon, Wooldridge Creek is Oregon’s first dual winery and creamery.  For over 40 years, the artisanal cheese and estate wine maker has been recognized for their 12 varietals, including zinfandel, viognier, and syrah. Last year, Wooldridge Creek was named one-of-10 most unique wine experiences in Southern Oregon by USA Today. As part of their efforts of being stewards of the land, Wooldridge Creek Winery is certified salmon safe and LIVE certified (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) and recently became a USDA organic farm.

Wooldridge Creek offers overnight accommodations in their “Little House”, a 2 bedroom cabin oozing Oregon’s rustic charm. Sit out on their patio with their wine and cheese and take in the views of the valley. Throughout the home, enjoy locally-made art that adorns the cabin. During your stay, take a hike along the Enchanted Forest Trail just down the road from the winery, drop by neighboring wineries at Schultz Wine and Walport Family Cellars, and visit Supernatural Chocolate Company’s Tasting Room on Williams Highway.

Illinois Valley

Augustino Estate and Vineyard

Situated in the Illinois Valley and half way between the coast and Grants Pass, Augustino Estate is unlike any other tasting room in Southern Oregon. Their 1500sf Treehouse tasting room offers guests a magical location to sip wine while enjoying the views of the surrounding Klamath Siskiyou Mountains and the rushing West Fork of the Illinois River below. Some of their signature wines include syrah, tempranillo, pinot noir, and their effervescent Celebration wine.

There’s plenty to see and do beyond the tasting room on the 400-acre ranch. For those wanting to stay the night, accommodations include the Cowboy cabin, Winery cabin, and the Farmhouse Cottage. If you plan to stay in your RV, they offer four full hook-up sites as well as four dry-camping Harvest Host sites. Take a stroll along their creekside trail and take a dip in one of the swimming holes. While there, explore Illinois Valley treasures like Oregon Caves National Monument, visit the Smoke Jumper Base Museum, and take a wildflower hike along the Rough and Ready Botanical Trail. Being halfway between Grants Pass and the coast, follow Redwood Highway 40 miles to Jedediah Redwoods or visit their new Brookings tasting room slated to open this May.

Bridgeview Vineyards

If you love art and natural beauty, make sure to visit Bridgeview Vineyards and Winery, nestled in the heart of the Illinois Valley. For 40 years, this estate winery near Cave Junction has been producing cooler climate varietals like Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Pinot, and Chardonnay. They recently reopened their newly renovated tasting room and art gallery which features Guild Member Artists. Additionally, the winery in conjunction with the Southern Oregon Guild holds regular painting classes alongside their gardens and ponds.

For those interested in staying the night, they offer a winery suite above the tasting room that overlooks the vineyard and ponds. The 2 bedroom loft includes a full kitchen and a beautiful deck that overlooks the vineyard, complete with a hot tub. While staying at Bridgeview, plan a hike along the Illinois River’s Little Falls Loop Trail and see the Darlingtoinia fens at Eight Dollar Mountain Botanical Wayside. Find unique art at It’s a Burl Gallery and Studio and learn about the area’s rich history at the Kerbyville Museum. For weekend stays, plan to attend the Cave Junction Farmers Market that features live music, fresh produce, and locally-made crafts and goods.
